ChatGPT Plugin Privacy
This addendum to our site privacy policy covers the Greener Closet plugin for ChatGPT: what ChatGPT sends us when it uses the plugin, what we keep, and what we never collect. It describes the plugin as it actually works today.
What ChatGPT sends us
When ChatGPT decides to use the plugin, or you mention it, ChatGPT calls greenercloset.com/mcp with only the details that one question needs:
- Check a fabric label: the fiber composition, such as "60% cotton, 40% polyester".
- Check a product: the product page link.
- Check a brand: the brand name.
- Find alternatives: the kind of clothing, a brand to avoid, a department, fibers to include or leave out, and a minimum score.
- Explain a fiber: the fiber name.
We don't receive your ChatGPT conversation, your account details, or anything you said that the plugin didn't need. ChatGPT may attach general request details, such as your language or approximate location; the plugin doesn't use or store them. The plugin has no login.
What we keep
- Daily counts. For each day we count how many times each plugin feature was used and how it turned out (for example, "product found" or "not in our catalog"). When a product isn't in our catalog, the count also records the retailer's website name, such as
patagonia.com, never the full link. These counts have no IP address, user ID or conversation ID, so they can't be tied to you. We delete them after 180 days. - A shared usage limit. To keep the plugin available, we count all plugin requests together per minute. That counter has no information about who sent a request and expires after its minute ends.
- Hosting logs. Like any website, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a short period under its own retention rules. We use them only to fix errors and stop abuse.
- Product photos. Product cards shown in ChatGPT load product photos from our image storage at Vercel, our hosting provider. Like any image request, your device sends Vercel standard request details such as your IP address. Product cards don't load any other outside content or tracking.
The fabric labels, links, brand names and filters ChatGPT sends are used to answer that request and then discarded. We don't save them, apart from the retailer website name described above.
When you follow a link to Greener Closet
Plugin answers link to pages on greenercloset.com. Once you open one, you're on our website, and our site privacy policy and cookie choices apply. If you use the "analyze it on Greener Closet" link for a product we haven't analyzed yet, our website reads that product page and saves its fiber breakdown and score to our public catalog, the same as any analysis on our site.
What we never do
- Sell plugin data or share it with anyone for advertising.
- Show ads inside ChatGPT.
- Build a profile of you or link plugin use to a Greener Closet account.
